FA OF SERBIA AND WOMEN’S SPORTS INSTITUTE SIGN COOPERATION AGREEMENT | FREE FOOTBALL SCHOOLS FOR GIRLS TO BE OPENED ALL OVER SERBIA IN THE NEXT TWO MONTHS

10.02.2022.

Football Association of Serbia and Women’s Sports Institute have signed Cooperation Agreement earlier today. In the next two months, free football schools for girls of primary school age will be opened in ten Serbian cities, where hundreds of students are expected. The cooperation arose from the need for women’s football affirmation, which is gaining more and more importance and popularity on a global level.

“It is our intention to support all girls who want to play football, and the important message we want to send is – yes, football is a sport for girls and women! Women’s Sports Institute is the best possible partner in this mission, considering their network of experts, the system they managed to establish in our country and enable girls to play sports for free. We stand firm with the Institute and hope that this cooperation will mean a big step forward, to support and cheer for women’s football in the future”, said Dr. Jovan Šurbatović, General Secretary of the FA of Serbia.

“We are glad that the FA of Serbia has chosen us as a partner in the project of motivating girls to play football. We work hard and expect for the first free football schools for all the girls who want to practice this sport to be opened in several cities already in February. Football is a sport that is perceived as a male sport; it is time to change that. We see the cooperation with the FA of Serbia as an important step for the future development of women’s football in Serbia”, said Marina Maljković, founder of the Women’s Sports Institute, a basketball coach, and head-coach of the women’s basketball team.

Today, as many as 45 million female football players are registered with FIFA. There were over 100,000 spectators at the 3rd Women’s World Cup final match between the USA and China, played in the USA. An increasing number of women’s clubs and organisations have initiated football sports workers to take the issue of women’s football more seriously.

Two out of three girls aged 7 to 14 have no regular sports activities, and there are far fewer girls and women at each level of sports. Women’s Sports Institute supports girls in Serbia with these free football schools, so they would realise their full potential in life through physical activity and sports. We believe that the only way to reach our full potential as women and girls is through being physically active. We believe in equal opportunities.

Every sport needs more girls, join us!
