After much uncertainty, the Serbian cadets team (U17) also qualified for the Elite Round for the European Championship. The match of selected team of head-coach Dejan Branković vs. Hungary, played in Minsk, ended in a draw (0:0), so, thanks to the victory over Belarus (2:1) they managed to ‘eliminate the minus’ from the match vs. Latvia (1:2) and validate the visa for the elite round.
This accomplishment of cadets seems even bigger knowing that they won Belarus with a player less, and had to put an extra effort to reach the draw with Hungary, as of 66 minute only 10 players were left on the field of play after expulsion of Stanković.
In this way, the cadets wrapped up the good results of all youth teams of the Football Association of Serbia, as the U19 team previously qualified for the elite round competing with such teams as Spain, Romania and Lithuania, as well as the both girls’ teams (WU17 and WU19). The women’s U17 team was successful among Czech Republic, Georgia and Ukraine teams, while the women’s U19 team succeeded in the group with England, Belarus and Cyprus.
All the teams are looking forward to the results of the draw for the elite round, which will be played in the first half of the next year.
