BIG VICTORY OF SERBIA AGAINST MONTENEGRO, 90 MINUTES UNTIL MAKING A 24-YEARS LONG DREAM COME TRUE - QUALIFYING FOR THE EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP

18.10.2023.

A night of joy, a night of great victory, very important in the last ten, fifteen years for our National Team football. Serbia defeated a good team of Montenegro – 3:1 (1:1) and came one step closer to fulfilling its dream and qualifying for the European Championship after 24 years! There are still 90 minutes of the match against Bulgaria, in the last round of EURO qualifiers, to confirm the trip to Germany in 2024.

There was not much excitement in the first half, and practically the most valuable points were the goals, each beautiful in its own way. It was the 9th minute of play when Aleksandar Mitrović created a position for himself with a small solo roll, followed by shot and the ball ended up in the upper right corner of the Montenegro goal. Serbia controlled the events on the pitch, until the 36th minute, when the Montenegro Team had a counterattack and Stevan Jovetić, managed to equalize the score.

In the second half, the Head Coach Dragan Stojković immediately made two substitutions, Sergej Milinković – Savić and Filip Kostić entered the game. Practically, all the second half was played on the part of the pitch of Montenegro. We were closest to the goal in the 72nd minute, when Kostić crossed, and Tadić attempted a header, but the ball went over the goal and then the moment of truth, the moment of decision, the moment we’ve been waiting for… A large part of the work was done by Sergej Milinković-Savić who passed the ball to Tadić, followed by an assist to Aleksandar Mitrović – 2:1. Montenegro had no choice, it had to move forward, and that left a lot of room for a new action for Serbian Team. Marušić made a mistake, and captain Dušan Tadić shot and hit the bottom right corner of the Montenegro’s goal – 3:1. Three big points were won, Serbia is about to make a 24-years long dream come true and qualify for the European Championship.

There is one match more, a match against Bulgaria in November.
