JOVAN ŠURBATOVIĆ RECEIVES A PRESTIGIOUS MASTER'S DEGREE – MESGO

Specialized master studies for the top management in the field of global sports governance – MESGO have had a new, fifth generation of graduates with FA of Serbia General Secretary, Jovan Šurbatović among them.

After two years of studies, with lectures held in Paris, Rome, New York, Strasbourg, Lausanne, Frankfurt, Mainz, Barcelona and London, the final ceremony was held in Germany, earlier this month. Šurbatović passed his final exam “Ownership Transformation of Football Clubs in Serbia as a Factor of Good Governance” with flying colours. The mentor was Professor Emeritus, Vladimir Andref from the Sorbonne University, one of the world’s leading experts in the sports economics’ field and author of many books and scientific papers.

MESGO is a program sponsored by UEFA, FIBA, EHF, IIHF and the Council of Europe, organized by five leading European universities – Birkbeck in London (Great Britain), University of Limoges (France), University of Lausanne (Switzerland), University of Lleida (Spain) and Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz (Germany). The program is intended for specialist studies and further education of experienced managers and executives. It provides contacts with the most successful sports organizations in Europe, such as UEFA, FIBA, ULEB, French Football Federation or the NBA, NFL and NHL in the USA. Students also had an opportunity to learn about organization of the most attractive sports events, such as Roland Garros, Wimbledon or Formula 1 or cricket competitions.

Among other things, they spent some time in talks with management of the football clubs Paris Saint-Germain FC, Barcelona FC and Chelsea FC, and a part of the program included a visit to the European Parliament and the Council of Europe.

General Secretary, Jovan Šurbatović is a longtime university professor; teaching courses in the field of sports economics and sports management, and his two textbooks – “Management in Sports” and “Sports and Business” are currently being translated into English language for the needs of the UEFA Academy.

A great number of staff of the FA of Serbia have already attended and passed certain UEFA Academy programs. In the future period FA of Serbia shall pay special attention to further professional development in the UEFA Academy programs, intended for managers, experts in various fields and former football players.
