UEFA EURO 2024 QUALIFIERS | SERBIA DESERVED MORE, HUNGARY LUCKIER

08.09.2023.

The Serbian national team lost to Hungary in the match of the 4th round of qualifications for the European Championship – 1:2 (1:2). In a duel in which the Eagles deserved much more, especially in view of its play in the second half, it turned out that Hungary was more skillful, but also much luckier in this match.

The first part of the game brought the final epilogue of this game. Serbia was the first to take the lead, but the guest team managed to turn the score around in just a few minutes and pull off a surprise.

How powerful Stojković’s Serbia can be was best seen in the tenth minute of the match, when the individual quality of our national team members came to the fore. Sergej phenomenally found Tadić, who practically found himself alone in front of Dibuš, the captain decided to be an assistant instead of a scorer, he served Vlahović, who was selflessly helped by the Hungarian defender Salaja.

The conceded goal did not change anything in the visitors’ game, they still stood far from Dibuš, quite high, they tried to have more ball possession, they got the opportunity to threaten Vanja Milinković – Savić. Even after a little confusion and „billiard“ in our penalty area, Serbia managed to equalize. Just two minutes later, Hungarians’ action again and finally Orbán’s realization for a complete reversal of the result. In the second half, Serbia was a much better opponent, created a large number of good opportunities, but failed to realize them.

UEFA TROPHY FOR ALEKSANDAR MITROVIĆ

A small ceremony before the kick-off of the match and recognition for the best scorer in the League of Nations (six goals), Aleksandar Mitrović. The UEFA trophy was presented to him by Branislav Nedimović, vice president of the Football Association of Serbia.

THE CHILDREN CREATED A FANTASTIC ATMOSPHERE

And again, children from numerous football clubs and schools, like in matches against Lithuania and Sweden, filled the eastern side of the stadium and were a huge support for Tadić and his friends
