NOONE LIKE PIKSI | DRAGAN STOJKOVIĆ IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE HISTORY OF SERBIAN FOOTBALL WHO PERFORMED AT THE WORLD AND EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS AS A PLAYER AND NATIONAL COACH!

17.06.2024.

The match that Serbia has been waiting for 24 years, since 2000 and the last appearance of the national team at the European Championship in Belgium and the Netherlands, the duel with England in Gelsenkirchen, will become a history of our football by one detail that deserves the prefix historical. Namely, the coach of Serbia, Dragan Stojković, will be the first man in Serbian football who made an appearance at the World and European Championships as a player and an appearance both at the World and European Championships as a coach! No one has ever managed to do that since 1930, and many big players and coaches have passed through the national team, since the time when the first World Cup was played in Uruguay or since 1960, when the first edition of the European Championship was held.

As a player, Dragan Stojković appeared at the European Championships in France in 1984 and 2000 in Belgium and the Netherlands, and the World Championship in Italy in 1990 and France in 1998. As a National Coach, he led the best national team at the World Championship in Qatar in 2022 and now at the European Championship in Germany in 2024. It is important to apostrophize the fact that Dragan Stojković as a player would have recorded more appearances in both major competitions if there had been no UN sanctions in the 90s of the last century, for which the national team qualified but was sent off home from European Championships in Sweden in 1992 due to the UN sanctions.
