EURO WU19 | HEAD COACH LIDIJA STOJKANOVIĆ ANNOUNCED THE LIST OF PLAYERS FOR LITHUANIA, FRANCE, ENGLAND AND LITHUANIA OPPONENTS IN THE GROUP STAGE

The list of players to represent Serbia at the upcoming European Under-19 Championship has been announced. Head coach Lidija Stojkanović summoned 20 players who are preparing at the FAS Sports Centre in Stara Pazova.

The women’s U-19 team of Serbia has already achieved a great success by qualifying for the European Championship, to be staged in Lithuania from 14th to 27th July. Players selected by the head coach Lidija Stojkanović already had a few gatherings during the past month, all in order to prepare as best as they can and readily wait for very demanding group stage matches. Serbia is in the group with France, England and the host Lithuania, and our girls will open the tournament with a match with France in Jonava, on 14th July (13:00).

On 17th July we will play England (13:00), at the stadium in Marijampole, and the last group match will be at the Darius and Girenas stadium in Kaunas, on 20th July (17:00).

Teams of Republic of Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain (current European championship) are in the second group. Names of the players participating in the tournament speak volumes about the kind of company our girls are in, i.e. what a success is to take part in this competition of the best women’s European U-19 teams.

In the first qualification round that was staged in Albania, Serbia was very convincing. We achieved three wins in the group with Iceland (2:0), Belarus (2:0) and Scotland (2:0).

In the first match (with Slovakia) of the second, elite qualification round that was staged at the FAS Sports Centre in Stara Pazova girls impressed again, even with a draw (2:2). Then came a big win against Belarus (7:0) and in the decisive match against a strong team of Belgium, Serbia demonstrated all their potential and won (2:0). That win made a path to Lithuania among the eight best teams of Europe (maybe it would be correct to say seven, as Lithuania, as the host, automatically qualified for the final tournament).
