11 YEARS WITHOUT MILJAN MILJANIĆ | THE PRESIDENTS OF FSS AND FSB LAID WREATHS ON THE GRAVE OF A FOOTBALL VISIONARY

In accordance with practice and tradition, on the second day of the “Miljan Miljanić” International Memorial Tournament, members of the FSS and FSB leadership, in the presence of delegations of the tournament participants and members of the Miljanić family, laid flowers on the grave of the legendary expert in the Alley of Meritorious Citizens at the New Cemetery in Belgrade.

President Dragan Džajić laid a wreath on behalf of the Football Association of Serbia:

“I would like to thank the Football Association of Belgrade for starting the initiative nine years ago to organize a tournament that preserves the memory of the image and work of Miljan Miljanić. The legendary Čiča indebted the Serbian football and deserves not to be forgotten. I use the opportunity to greet the guests from Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bulgaria, to thank them for honoring this important event with their presence.”

President Marko Zdravković addressed the present people on behalf of the Football Association of Belgrade.

“Miljan Miljanić did not only mark an era, he also marked a time that will outlive all of us.” He created a chain of inexhaustible football knowledge, which will be passed down from generation to generation. The number of players and coaches who were formed based on his philosophy of football are a great asset of Serbian football. With his authority, Miljan always brought together the best that Yugoslav football had to offer. That’s how we gather today and keep the memory of that great name.”

As every year, the commemoration of the great visionary who left an indelible mark on Serbian, European and world football could not be done without his former students, Vladimir Petrović Pižon, Zoran Filipović, Dušan Savić, Stanislav Karasi and many others.

Also present was the director of younger categories of the FSS, Nikola Lazetić:

“Years are passing by, but the memory of our Čiča does not fade. As a child I was lucky enough to meet him and to feel how his energy has a positive effect on the whole environment. He literally captivated with his knowledge and charisma. A tournament in his honor is the least we can do to repay a man who was always ahead of his time.”

On behalf of the family, Miljan’s youngest grandson, Vuk Miljanić, invited all present to a traditional get-together at the Madera restaurant.
