HONOR AND RECOGNITION FOR THE SERBIAN COACH OF THE YEAR 2019 | SINIŠA MIHAJLOVIĆ HONORARY CITIZEN OF BOLOGNA

The famous Serbian coach and the former Head Coach of our “A” National Team, Siniša Mihajlović, has officially become the Honorary Citizen of the City of Bologna. The decision was made on Monday at the meeting of the City Council, by public voting (26 in favor, 3 against) and in the presence of the Mayor of Bologna, Virginio Merola. The explanation indicates that Mihajlović deserved the greatest city recognition, both because of his coaching qualities and his personal characteristics:

“Siniša returned to Bologna at the beginning of 2019, at the moment when our team was in  very difficult position. His character and coaching skills contributed to miraculously save our team from relegation and to break the record for the number of points won in the era of President Saputo. We all knew that he was firm on the football pitch, but the way he fought the severe disease speaks of the fact that he is also a fearless fighter off the football pitch. Even during the treatment, he never turned his back to the team and the fans.

The relationship that he established with citizens of Bologna during the most important battle of his life, has overcome the framework of sports passions and it deserves a deep inclination, not only from Italy, but from the entire World. We are particularly proud of his statement where he indicated that he feels like “the son of Bologna” as Bologna is like this: it accepts you, it takes care of you, Many people found the additional energy in Siniša Mihajlović to struggle with their problems or to cure from serious illnesses “- said Gian Marco De Biase, the initiator of the idea to present to the best coach of Serbia for 2019 the title of the Honorary Citizen of the City of Bologna.
